Birth Certificates:
A certified birth certificate is necessary for access to many services in our society, but the poor often do not have the means to pay for an official birth certificate. We complete the necessary paperwork to obtain one birth certificate for each family member, and we provide this service at no expense to the client, thanks to the United Way, which funds this program for us.
Having a birth certificate is necessary to access housing, food stamps, child support, disability, to enroll a child in school, and, and for identification purposes. We pay all costs of birth certificates to any of the 50 states. Costs range from $9-50, depending on the state. We also are able to do delayed birth certificates for people who were never issued one at their birth. In addition, we help people get a Georgia photo ID at no cost to them.
Available to Chatham, Bryan and Effingham residents. They may be obtained from any of the 50 states, or the US State Dept. for those born outside the US to American parents. Clients need a referral from either DFCS, Housing Authority, Social Security Admin, child support office or school system. A photo ID is required for birth certificates.
Georgia Identification Cards:
Available to Chatham, Bryan and Effingham County residents. The state of Georgia requires that clients must provide proof of identity, proof of social security number and proof of residence.
